What is this key that can make or break your success this year?


It’s your ability to decide. 


Sounds simple, but unfortunately the problem is that most of us don’t actually know what making a real decision is.


You see, people use the word decision far too loosely.

 

The decisions we think we’re making are more of a ‘wish’ list than an actual bunch of decisions.  We usually state preferences, rather than deciding on (and thus committing to) the actual thing we want!

What is a decision?

‘I’m going to quit smoking, (gives into the temptation at the next opportune moment, then decides to quit ‘tomorrow’ or ‘next week’)’


‘I want to make/save more money! Continues bad spending habits, or procrastinates looking for a new job opportunity or source of income, stating that you’ll do it “next week/month”.’


These 'wants' aren't decisions. Making a true decision means that you have left your self with no alternative. The root of the word decision literally means ‘to cut off’. By DECIDING that we are going to do something means we cut off all all other options, in an effort to achieve what we truly desire.


‘I’m going to lose this weight and change my life.” vs “I’d like to lose about 5-10 lbs” makes all the difference in your success. Decide - and COMMIT.

So please, for yourself, DECIDE to TAKE ACTION.

4 steps to success

Here are 4 steps that will provide you with a concrete, successful starting point if you don't already have one:


  1. DECIDE to workout 3-4 times per week, or however many you can COMMIT to to start. This can be at home, at a gym, outside, it really doesn’t matter. Just start. If you don’t think you have time, you’re lying to yourself. Contact me and I will help you fit working out into your busy schedule. Anyone can do it.


  1. DECIDE to eat BETTER. Not ‘healthier’, better. More suiting to your goals. Prioritize PROTEIN at every feeding. Prioritize fruits and vegetables to help you feel more full and satisfied throughout the day. ENJOY moderate amounts of your favorite foods - life is short, and Flexible Dieting works, restriction usually does not, check out my article.


  1. DECIDE to exercise daily. Sure, your whole day might have gone to $#IT. Unexpected things happened. You ran out of time for some unforeseen reason. Take 15-20 minutes before bed, if you have to, and MOVE. Go for a walk. Do some dynamic stretching, body weight exercises, whatever you can. It’s better to move, than not to move. What if you couldn’t take advantage of your amazing ability to move, tomorrow?


  1. DECIDE to be consistent. No excuses. In some way, everyone can commit to being consistent with one of the steps above. There are really only 3 steps, and one golden rule (be consistent) that allows you to be successful with them. Decide to consistently act towards your goals, not against them, and you’ll be successful in time.

TO SUMMARIZE

  1. Deciding what you want, and holding yourself to a higher standard is the key to success.
  2. Your program doesn't have to be perfect, as long as you're consistent you'll find out what works, and maybe what doesn't, adjust, and see results in time.
  3. Though it might be tough at times, your decision has to be final - be flexible, but do not compromise on what you truly want.
